HEART Kenya Crisis Updates archive
Hello Vickie,

Am writing this mail from Nyamira, Its a few kilometers from the place we were distributing food to the dislaced people.

We were able to distribute food to 145 families: mainly maize and cooking oil. They were very appreciative and we were assisted by Pastors from Bishop Abels church. We finished late and we shall be travelling back tomorrow.

In the morning we visited one of the camps: - Ekerenyo Camp and these are the details: - It has a total population of 1,393 people of which 582 are children below 18 years, 522 women and 343 men. We met the Red Cross staff on site and they are doing a great Job. They are giving just enough ration of foodat two weeks intervals. Their immediate needs at the moment are Sanitary towels and Panties for women and girls.

The families are still stating they do not having enough to eat but from our observation and the report from red Cross staff, we feel food is not an immediate need.

Our request is to campaign for more panties for these women and we can approach another agency for towels. This will be of great assistance to them. If you manage to get more, we can make arrangement to deliver some of the ones we have while waiting for the consignment.

As for the families we gave food, they were not in a camp but were from different camps. I will be providing a full report on this when I collect all the relevant information.

Kind regards
